Graduated from Keio University, Faculty of Economics. Received a Master of International Public Policy (MIPP) from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). Joined Chunichi Shimbun in 1977, and after working in the Tokyo Head Office (Tokyo Shimbun) Economic Department, Brussels Bureau Chief, and Deputy Chief Editorial Writer, he left the company at the end of March 2018.
