Chicago's air quality has been upgraded to hazardous Thursday, the highest level given for poor air quality, as the ongoing heat wave is mixing with dense smoke from Canadian wildfires, creating unhealthy conditions. An Air Quality Alert remains in effect for all of Chicagoland through Thursday. As of about noon Thursday, the Air Quality Index for Chicago reached 395, according to AirNow.gov.
