Best of RAR: When Your Developing Reader Resists Reading

If you're following us here at RAR, you most likely want your kids to love books and reading. But here’s the truth: not all of our kids become voracious readers on their own. In fact, if your child is a developing reader who hasn’t yet gained fluency, reading is probably pretty far down their list of preferred activities, which can be disheartening for us. But what we need to remember is that the early days of learning to read are actually really hard. It’s not fun when your child has to stop and sound out every third or fourth word, it’s work. No wonder they’d rather do anything else. So today, I want to share some strategies to help hook your developing reader. And of course, I have some suggestions for books that they won’t be able to resist. In this episode, you’ll hear: Why helping your kids fall in love with story is the first step to falling in love with reading How short, frequent phonics and reading sessions snowball towards fluency and ease How to use a series to hook your developing reader and build their motivation to read on their own Head to https://readaloudrevival.com/child-re... to check out the full show notes. #readingaloud #sarahmackenzie #homeschooling #readaloudrevival
