It was 1984. I was working as a paramedic at the logging company and sometimes helped geologists, hunters, and foresters. It was a remote area, in the northern Tomsk region, closer to the swamps and old cedar groves. The forest there was different from the one near the village. You could walk there for a day and not see a trace of a human being, only old clearings, rotted posts, and winter huts that no longer remembered who built them.
