El Viejo Lolo: El fenómeno de su extraña desaparición (Parte I)

For many, this story began when the internet filled with posts about a missing old man. A man who lived high in the mountains of Jarabacoa and who, from one day to the next, simply vanished without a trace. The search efforts were massive, but they didn’t uncover a single clue. Not even the police could solve it. It felt like a mystery from a movie, and the internet did what it does best: turn it into a phenomenon. The disappearance of El Viejo Lolo captured the attention of the entire Dominican Republic. But for me, it was personal. I knew him. We were working on a documentary about lost treasure jars (botijas) and the mystery of the Indigenous people. That documentary, like Lolo’s story, was left unfinished. And even if we never find all the answers, I’ll try to reconstruct his story as a way to get closer to the truth… and maybe, find a little closure.
