Life in the upstream of the Citarum depends on nature. However, growing human pressure has turned forests into farmlands and settlements, leading to disasters that threaten lives. Flooding, landslides, and drought are now most commonly experienced by local communities. Since 2021, AstraZeneca, in collaboration with One Tree Planted and Trees4Trees, has worked with local communities to restore degraded land. Millions of trees have been planted through agroforestry across the Citarum watershed to restore ecosystems and support local communities. Now, after five years, change is taking root. Once-degraded lands are coming back to life bringing positive impacts to both the environment and local communities by involving local farmers and surrounding communities through nursery operations.
