BIF’s World Wi-Fi Day Conference 24 June 2025 - Inaugural

Every June, BIF celebrates World Wi-Fi Day to underscore Wi-Fi’s profound impact on global connectivity and its vital role in driving economic growth, social mobility, education, and digital inclusion. This year, we aim to elevate the celebration by recognizing the Government of India’s significant advancements in digital innovation. With over 90% of broadband usage in India occurring over Wi-Fi networks, the recent delicensing of the 6 GHz band is expected to unlock a new era of next-generation Wi-Fi (6E and beyond) — leading to faster and more reliable home Wi-Fi, enhanced digital connectivity for in-building coverage, and opportunities for innovation in the area of Private Networks in industries like smart cities and smart factories as also for public and community Wi-Fi solutions. Our goal of achieving 50 million public Wi-Fi hotspots by 2030 makes this conference a critical platform to reflect on the progress, share international best practices, and reaffirm Wi-Fi’s role as a pillar of inclusive digital development. Aligning with the theme of the recently launched India Mobile Congress, ‘Innovate to Transform’, this year’s Wi-Fi Day celebrations are themed: “Transforming India, Innovating for the World.” The event will feature presentations by senior officials from the Government and subject matter experts from India and abroad during the inaugural session, followed by panel discussions on key topics, including: -Impact of Delicensed 6 GHz on the Innovative Growth of Wi-Fi in India -PM-WANI: Catalyst for Rural Connectivity and Digital Inclusion -Open Roaming & Global Connectivity -Wi-Fi Standards and Security
