Review: Furtwängler's Bayreuth Beethoven Ninth--Its Most Metaphysical, Worst-Sounding Release Yet!!
This release from BIS of a fuzzy-sounding Swedish radio broadcast tape containing the entire 29 July 1951 reopening of Bayreuth concert, attempts to recreate the historical thrill of sitting in front of a primitive radio and listening to Furtwängler's Beethoven Ninth. It does this quite well. Why anyone would want to endure the experience I have no idea, but if the prospect floats your boat, then go for it.
