Takachiho Shrine's Night Kagura (Iwato Kagura) Kagura, a form of traditional Japanese dance passed down in the Takachiho region of Miyazaki Prefecture, originated when Amano-Uzume-no-Mikoto performed a lively dance in front of the cave when Amaterasu Omikami (the sun goddess) hid in the cave. Every year from mid-November to February of the following year, 33 night kagura dances are performed in each village to express gratitude for the autumn harvest and pray for a bountiful harvest in the coming year.
