We love the all-inclusive fares… the smaller-sized ships… and the butler service offered in ALL suites and cabins. But, what is it really like to take a seven-day Alaskan cruise with Silversea? Well, stay tuned and we’ll show you! INTRO We start this cruise in Alaska—-Anchorage to be exact—-at the Alaska Railroad Depot—- which is conveniently located directly adjacent to the Ted Stephens International Airport. From here, we’ll travel on a spur line to join the main line to where the cruise ships dock in Seward. This line has never had scheduled service. Instead, it it used by cruise operators to transport passengers to and from the port in Seward. For us, Silversea chartered the Grandview Train to take us from Anchorage south to Seward where we will embark. Known as “The Coastal Classic”, this trip is a favorite among train enthusiasts and our video of it is one on the most popular on our channel! Check it out at the link above or below. It’s a lovely passage with drinks …. and snacks….. and fantastic glass-domed cars. This 114-mile (183 km) trip takes around four and a half hours due to some slow trackage as the line winds its way over the mountains. By the way: the cost of this transfer from the airport to the ship was NOT included in our cruise fare: it was an additional $210 per person. A basic motor coach transfer from Anchorage to the ship is included in your fare at no additional cost. Before we know it, we’re embarking the beautiful Silversea Muse! Built in 2017, Muse can accommodate just 596 passengers and more than 400 crew. We posted a complete walking tour of the ship ——if you’d like to see it—- at the link above and below. Our cabin is number 650: a deluxe veranda suite, with 387 square feet (36 m2) of living space… and that includes the 65 square foot (6 m2) veranda. There is a very nice shower with rain shower head. Bulgari brand toiletries. And a well-appointed tub. We paid a little more than ten thousand dollars for this cruise and that works out to about $750 dollars per person, per night, or —-for all my fellow geeks out there—-about two dollars per person, per night, per square foot. Out first night’s meal was at Silver Note. This has been our favorite dining spot on all of our Silversea cruises, mainly because we love the idea of enjoying live music while we’re dining. Although the menu is described as “small plate tapas-style”, we can assure you there are several larger-sized items you can order. For example: the lobster dish. We always order two—-for each of us—- it’s that good! And, the desserts at Silver Note are amazing. See a complete guide to dining on Silversea—-including all the menus—- at the link above or below. And, see all the menus for all the restaurants on Muse at the end of this video.
