📜 [Intro] Recorded in March 2026. Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village is the largest Miao ethnic settlement in China and is widely regarded as the largest Miao village in the world. Located in Leishan County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture of Guizhou Province, the village is home to over 1,400 households and more than 6,000 residents, with over 99% belonging to the Miao ethnic group. It is often called a "living museum of Miao culture" because it preserves centuries-old traditions, architecture, festivals, music, and craftsmanship. Nestled in a picturesque mountain valley beneath Leigong Mountain, the village is built entirely along the hillsides. Thousands of traditional wooden stilt houses, known as Diaojiaolou, rise layer upon layer above the Baishui River, creating one of the most spectacular mountain village landscapes in China. Wind and Rain Bridges connect both sides of the river, while narrow stone streets lead visitors through ancient neighborhoods filled with traditional homes, artisan workshops, and local markets. For centuries, Xijiang has been one of the most important cultural centers of the Miao people. Visitors can experience traditional welcoming ceremonies, colorful folk dances, Lusheng music performances, and the world-famous Miao silver jewelry, embroidery, and batik craftsmanship. The Miao Museum offers fascinating insights into the history, migration, customs, and beliefs of one of China's oldest ethnic groups. The village is especially famous for its breathtaking nighttime scenery. As dusk falls, thousands of warm lights illuminate the wooden houses across the mountainside, transforming the valley into a glittering sea of lights. From the panoramic observation deck, visitors can enjoy one of Guizhou's most iconic views, often compared to a glowing mountain amphitheater. Food lovers will also appreciate Xijiang's distinctive Miao cuisine. Local specialties include Sour Soup Fish, smoked pork, glutinous rice, sticky rice cakes, mountain vegetables, rice wine, and spicy dishes flavored with locally grown chili peppers and herbs. These traditional recipes reflect the Miao people's close relationship with the surrounding mountains and forests. Beyond its beautiful scenery, Xijiang remains a living community where many local families continue to preserve traditional lifestyles. Villagers still wear handmade embroidered clothing during festivals, produce exquisite silver ornaments, weave textiles, and celebrate ancient customs that have been passed down through generations.
