Puri Rath Yatra 2026 LIVE: Lakhs of Devotees, 220 Platoons & Mega Arrangements in Odisha Puri, Odisha: Lakhs of devotees have thronged the holy city of Puri ahead of the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra, as streets fill up and preparations for the grand yatra gather pace. The administration has tightened security outside the Shree Jagannatha Temple and scaled up crowd management to ensure a safe and smooth experience for all. Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling calls Lord Jagannath’s world‑famous Rath Yatra a major festival for the state and says there is a celebratory atmosphere everywhere. He says over 1,000 doctors have been deployed, first‑aid centres and ambulances have been stationed at multiple locations, and a temporary hospital with more than 200 beds has been set up as part of “comprehensive preparations.” Odisha Chief Secretary Anu Garg says Rath Yatra is the most important occasion for every Odia, and the government has taken all‑out steps to ensure the best services for both the Lord and devotees coming from across the country. She highlights that the Chief Minister and ministers have been personally reviewing arrangements, adding more parking spaces, installing around 1,200 toilets, making provisions for pumps in case of rain, and creating “heat rooms” and hospital facilities for extreme weather. On the security front, IGP (Central Range) Dr Satyajit Naik says a multi‑layered security arrangement has been put in place, with 220 platoons of forces deployed for the Rath Yatra of Mahaprabhu Balabhadra, Mahaprabhu Jagannath and Devi Subhadra. Coastal and naval security have been strengthened, ships are deployed for patrolling, railway security has been coordinated, and sector‑wise crowd management plans are in place inside the temple, with special provisions for women, children and senior citizens. Odisha Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur says comprehensive traffic arrangements have been made this year, including parking facilities at about 30 locations. Once parking lots are full, people will be held at designated holding areas and allowed to proceed as spaces free up, to prevent congestion and crowd surge near the temple and key approach roads.
