Walter Parazaider’s Intense Final Interview Before Death 💔
In this 2010 interview Walter is candid! Walter Parazaider, the visionary co-founder, saxophonist, woodwind player, and original driving force behind the legendary rock band Chicago, has passed away, leaving behind an extraordinary musical legacy that spans more than five decades. Chicago announced the heartbreaking news in a heartfelt statement, saying: “Chicago is heartbroken at the sad news of Walter Parazaider’s passing this morning. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and countless Chicago fans who are all grieving his loss today.” The band reflected on Parazaider’s pivotal role in their formation, noting that the idea of creating “a rock & roll band with horns” was entirely his vision. He brought the original members together, organized rehearsals in his mother’s basement, and worked tirelessly booking early gigs at bars around Chicago while the group was still unknown. Born on March 14, 1945, Walter Parazaider was a classically trained musician whose mastery of the saxophone, flute, and clarinet became a defining element of Chicago’s unmistakable sound. As one of the band’s founding members in 1967, he helped revolutionize rock music by blending powerful horn arrangements with rock, jazz, and pop influences. His musicianship can be heard on timeless classics including 25 or 6 to 4, Saturday in the Park, Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?, and If You Leave Me Now. Reflecting on his impact, the band said, “Perhaps his greatest gift was bringing people together. This amazing music may have never been heard had it not been for Walt’s vision.” Walter Parazaider’s influence extends far beyond Chicago’s remarkable catalog. He helped shape one of the most successful and enduring bands in rock history, inspiring generations of musicians and fans around the world. Though he is gone, his vision, artistry, and the music he helped create will continue to live on for generations. Rest in peace, Walter Parazaider (1945–2026).
