Hidden beneath roads, housing estates, and industrial land lies the forgotten route of the Nottingham Canal — a waterway that once played a crucial role in the city’s industrial growth before vanishing almost completely from view. Opened in 1796, the Nottingham Canal was built to carry coal, limestone, and goods into the heart of the city. For decades it supported factories, mines, and wharfs along its route, helping fuel Nottingham’s rapid expansion during the Industrial Revolution. But competition from railways, declining trade, and urban development would eventually seal its fate. In this video, i explore the abandoned remains of the Nottingham Canal, following its lost course and uncovering what survives today.
