GARABATTO (productor de "Al Golpito" de QUEVEDO): por qué tus masters SUFREN al apretarlos
In this episode of Conectados, we visit Garabatto's studio in Madrid: a composer, producer, sound designer, and mixing and mastering engineer with extensive work in today's urban pop scene. We review his career: his beginnings in electronic music, a period that included a tour in the United States and a stint with the Panda Funk label, and his subsequent shift towards the mainstream with Warner. This led to his work with artists such as Quevedo, Saiko, Abraham Mateo, Omar Montes, and Mora, as well as collaborations and songwriting sessions with Aitana, Bad Gyal, JC Reyes, and Diplo. In the second half, the conversation focuses on the technical aspects. Garabatto explains why some tracks lose volume when limited earlier than expected and relates this to phase coherence. Using the "square test," it shows how a nonlinear process—a zero-latency EQ, a 0% OTT—misaligns the harmonics and reduces the available headroom, and describes how it corrects the phase of plugins that don't include a linear mode using impulse responses, assuming higher latency in return. ➡️ Topics covered: The origin of the name Garabatto and its earlier graffiti-related phase The transition from electronic music to urban pop and how to break into the industry "7 Lágrimas" with Soge Culebra as their first reggaeton track, and the subsequent remix with Mora How "Al Golpito" by Quevedo was made: chord progression, Ira's timple, the "quiero más" takes A tour of the studio: Mac M1 and M5, Genelec 8351 monitors, NS10s integrated into the acoustic treatment, Universal Audio Apollo X4 and Arrow, a Roli controller Why a large portion of the vocals are recorded in non-professional environments His way of working with artists and his composition process The tools he considers essential: meters and the Oszillos Mega Scope oscilloscope from Schulz Audio His views on linear phase versus zero latency, headroom, and Loudness 🎬 Index 00:00 Introduction 00:13 Career Path 21:26 Garabatto's Studio 32:04 "Al Golpito" Project in Ableton Live 01:05:07 Closing Remarks 👉 Interested in music and music technology?
