Wattle's innovative program for people living with dementia - Australia
A small rural health service in Australia's Mallee region has been recognised for its breakthrough program to support people living with dementia. Nurses and carers at Rural Northwest Health's Wattle unit in Warracknabeal, Victoria, have developed a capability model of care and other techniques devised from the Montessori training method. Residents of Wattle who previously spent their days in a vegetated state in front of the TV, are now performing useful tasks and engaging in activities. The results are having an amazing effect on the residents and their families as well as the staff involved.
