The extreme beauty in this Ravel melody
Perhaps among some of Ravel's unrightfully lesser-known melodies lies this magnificent and timeless gem of piano music (that doesn't really sound like piano music after all, almost like a group of singers or lush strings accompanied by percussion). The lush sonority comes from a vivid counterpoint exchanged by a variety of bells and the rich harmonic palette that accompanies the expressive melody which itself, seems to be never-ending by its lack of repetition and long, broad phrases.
