Yesterday, Esmeraldas was deserted. Few businesses opened, out of necessity, after the wave of crime on July 25th. The residents of Esmeraldas found themselves almost alone in a city that at this time of year is usually bustling with activity due to vacations in the Sierra region and the start of the Esmeraldas festivities, but where people remained in a kind of fearful quarantine.
