I Was His Second Wife ,Then He Married a third Wife | The Hidden Pain of Polygamy
Molly Awino was born in Kibera but later moved with her family to Lenana. Her childhood wasn’t too difficult—she attended school without major issues. However, in Form Two, she became pregnant. Despite the challenges, she persevered and completed Form Four. She enrolled in college but was unable to finish due to financial constraints. She began working and raised her child with care until the child turned three. Around that time, she met a man and entered into a relationship with him. Throughout their time together, he never took her to his home—they would always rent a room whenever they wanted to spend time together. After dating for a year and a half, he expressed his desire to marry her. Molly insisted that he follow the proper cultural steps and approach her parents. He agreed, and they were blessed as they began their marriage. They rented a house and started living together. In the beginning, he was very caring and supportive. A year into the marriage, Molly became pregnant. When she was seven months along, she discovered that he already had a wife—she had unknowingly been his side partner. The revelation came from his cousin, and Molly was devastated. He admitted he had a wife and four children, explaining that he hadn’t told her earlier because he feared she would leave him. Molly decided to move out and returned to her parents, sharing everything—including the fact that he would sometimes sleep out two or three nights a week. He was summoned and confessed the truth. Molly’s mother strongly opposed her going back to him. However, as her due date approached, she returned to him. He treated her well during that time. Her father insisted that Molly be formally introduced to the first wife. Surprisingly, the first wife welcomed her warmly. Eventually, Molly became pregnant again—but then the man married a third wife. His behavior changed drastically. He stopped providing for Molly and their children. After separating from his first wife, he began verbally and physically abusing Molly. He abandoned all responsibilities, leaving Molly to fend for herself and the children. In public, he portrayed himself as a loving husband, but at home, he was cruel—even mistreating his own children. Things deteriorated to the point where Molly could no longer bear the marriage. He stopped paying rent, yet remained in the house. Molly endured immense suffering—not only from her husband but also from the other woman, who went as far as sending Molly intimate videos of herself with the man, deliberately trying to torment her.
