Saros Review Discussion and Spoilercast | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 519

It's me, Colin. Please welcome Last Stand's executive producer Dustin Furman and ex-associate producer (and current games industry man-about-town) Ben Smith back to Sacred+. I've cobbled together this decidedly old-school LSM trio with a purpose: To talk about Housemarque's newest third-person romp, Saros. Since first playing the game more than a month ago, my thesis has been that Saros is a response to Returnal, moreso than a spiritual or literal successor. The game therefore rapidly becomes a litany of small and large changes that make it truly distinct from Housemarque's previous fare. Thus, the main lingering question is: Do these various choices work? How's the gunplay? The upgrade systems? The optional content? The Trophies? And what the heck's the story about anyway? (Truth be told, we're all in various stages of lost.) There's no doubt that Saros is a great game, especially mechanically. It's a true joy to play. What's left to wonder is if Returnal's mystique and 'get-good' nature has been lost in the mix, and this, of course, is all a matter of taste. Please enjoy.
