Speaking at the opening of the Next Steps Conference on Reparatory Justice in Accra on June 18, 2026, he said kidnapping and trafficking of children and young people represent contemporary forms of slavery that must be urgently addressed. He stressed that discussions on reparatory justice must go beyond history and confront ongoing human exploitation, including what he described as “extant slave markets” still existing on the continent.
