The Ruitai Ancient Trail, formerly known as the Youhalin Trail, is a mountain path connecting Ruili and Taihe, with a history of over a century. During the Guangxu era of the Qing Dynasty, Han Chinese exchanged hunting rifles, sickles, and other daily necessities with local indigenous people for land. This increased the influx of residents and established the Ruitai Ancient Trail, a convenient route connecting various settlements. It was a major transportation route for early settlers and agricultural products. Later, during the Japanese occupation, the trail underwent modifications in 1931 to facilitate the transport of agricultural products and schooling for residents of Ruili and Taihe. The section from Moyoukeng, Yingxiongpo, and Mokushidong to Zhenxiangling is an ancient path built in the 1870s during the Qing Dynasty. The section from Moyoukeng and Tianya to Zhenxiangling, however, is believed to have been rebuilt in 1931. During the Mengzong Bamboo Forest sacrificial ceremony, the path was exceptionally tranquil when the bright sunlight shone through, accompanied by the soft rustling of the bamboo grove. Challenge Your Physical Fitness at Hero Slope Moyoukeng is the intersection of two sections of the Ruitai Ancient Trail. The upper section on the right is a 140-year-old ancient trail. After passing through a round arched steel structure, it ascends a steep and long bamboo forest staircase. The middle section has a staircase of about 200 meters, while the right side has over 800 steps, locally known as "Hero Slope."
