Walk 223 | Chilterns Circular Walk from Cookham

Join me for a stunning 7½‑mile circular walk beginning at The Moor car park in Cookham, a perfect gateway to some of Berkshire’s most beautiful landscapes. This immersive route blends riverside calm, open meadows, steep climbs, ancient woodland, and classic English village charm. I start by heading east across The Moor to join the Thames Path, following the River Thames for around 1½ peaceful miles, with sweeping river views and that gentle waterside rhythm that makes this stretch so special. Leaving the river behind, my route crosses the open expanse of Cock Marsh, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, before the terrain suddenly shifts. A steep climb up to Winter Hill rewards me with some of the best elevated views in the area, a real highlight of the walk. From the top, my path winds towards Cookham Dean, weaving through quiet lanes and tucked‑away footpaths before entering the atmospheric, undulating trails of Quarry Wood. This section offers a mix of shaded woodland, rolling paths, and classic Chilterns character. The climb then softens as you approach The Hockett, leading me across Cookham Dean Common and through the heart of the village.
