Juniper Routing Policies | Introduction to Juniper and JNCIA Part 18
Routing policies control which routes are imported into and exported from the routing table, as well as modifying attributes that are applied to them. Exporting is advertising routes to neighbours, but also includes redistributing routes into different routing protocols. All importing and exporting is from the viewpoint of the routing table. Routes coming in pass through an import policy, and routes leaving go through an export policy. Each routing protocol comes with default import and export policies. We can optionally override (most of) these with our own policies. For example, OSPF import accepts all routes, while the export policy rejects everything. BPG uses special tables, called RIB-In and RIB-Out. RIB-In has all the prefixes that have been learned by peers. These prefixes then pass through the import policy on the way to the routing table. The default policy accepts all prefixes without modification and installs them in the routing table. An export policy takes routes from the routing table, applies modifications, and places them in the RIB-Out table. Prefixes in the RIB-Out table are then advertised to neighbours. The default policy accepts all active prefixes without modification. OSPF and IS-IS are link state protocols, which means they use a Link State Database. Routes end up here before passing through an import policy and then into the routing table. Study notes: https://networkdirection.net/study-no... Transcript: https://networkdirection.net/study-no...
