DCS World - MiG-19 vs A-6 - Did American Intruders Violate Chinese Airspace? Vietnam 1967.

21 August 1967, four A-6 Intruders of USS Constellation's VA-196 launch on a mission against Duc Noi railway marshaling yard. It's a diversionary attack in support of the main USAF raid. The flight is led by an experienced Korean War veteran, Cdr Leo Profilet. Bad weather and heavy enemy air defenses were just the beginning of what was probably the worst day of the Vietnam War for the Intruder community. Not only that Cdr Profilet's A-6 was hit by a SAM during their attack, two of the surviving aircraft took a course much further north than planned in order to avoid a thunderstorm. This course brought them under attack by at least six Chinese MiG-19s (J-6). Were the Americans really violating Chinese airspace or did the communist pilots attack the Americans in the airspace of North Vietnam? There are official reports, there's the testimony of Bob Flynn, a bombardier/navigator survivor of the mission. Watch this DCS World historical reenactment video to find out more.
