In 2009, air traffic controllers would face this exact question as they watched their radar screens with growing alarm. A state-of-the-art Airbus A320 with 149 souls aboard was cruising at 37,000 feet, completely isolated from the world below. The controllers tried to contact the aircraft numerous times: no answer.
