Women Mountaineers from Ladakh gets warm reception on their arrival in Leh

Four remarkable women mountaineers from the Union Territory of Ladakh—Dechen Spalzes (Basgo), Stanzin Chorol (Spituk), Diskit Chorol (Shara), and Kunzang Lamo (Mulbek)—successfully achieved the historic feat of summiting the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, proudly representing the nation, their force, and the Union Territory of Ladakh. The expedition was officially flagged off on 26 April 2026. The team then travelled to Nepal and undertook an eight-day trek to Everest Base Camp, reaching the base camp on 1 May 2026. Following their arrival, they carried out essential acclimatization rotations up to Camp III to prepare for the summit attempt. After a week's rest and recovery, the climbers waited patiently for a favourable weather window. With suitable conditions finally available, they began their final summit push at around 11:00 PM. After nearly 13 hours of continuous climbing, the team successfully stood atop the highest point on Earth, where they proudly unfurled the Indian National Flag, the flag of their force, and the flag of the Union Territory of Ladakh, marking a moment of immense pride and achievement. Following the successful expedition, the team returned to Delhi, where a flag-in ceremony was held on 2 July 2026. On 4 July 2026, the mountaineers arrived back in Leh and received a grand and heartfelt welcome at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport from their families, well-wishers, and supporters. Among those present to welcome the team were former Councillor Sonam Thardot of Shara and the Nambardar Basgo Stanzin Starga, who joined the gathering in congratulating the mountaineers on their remarkable achievement.
