I Rebuilt My First Transmission... Will It Actually Shift?

I finally did it! After completely rebuilding the 4-speed Toploader transmission on my 1969 Mustang Mach 1—my first transmission rebuild ever—it’s time for the ultimate test drive. Will it actually shift into 4th gear, or am I pulling it all back apart? In this episode, we're throwing the transmission back in, chasing down a pesky rear plug leak, and hitting the road for a classic car season kickoff cruise. It isn’t a true classic Ford test drive without a little troubleshooting, though. We battle some cold-start carburetor backfiring from the massive FE block before everything warms up and shifts smooth as butter. Once we're back in the garage, it’s straight into car show prep: an oil change, checking the suspension, and diagnosing a front wheel bearing so we can pass inspection.
