Dark Waters: Fly Fishing One of the Largest Wetlands in the Southeast

As my graduate program rolled on, I found myself on a clinical rotation in South Georgia, not far from the Okefenokee Swamp. Once I had a weekend off, I took the opportunity to make a day trip down to the swamp to pursue Bowfin and Chain Pickerel on the fly. The Okefenokee is not only one of my favorite places to visit and fly fish, but is also a huge wilderness zone home to dozens of species of plants and animals, and is unique to the United States. Recently it came under immense pressure from a proposed mine bordering the swamp, which may have had irreversible consequences on the landscape.
