Written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn. Arranged by Jimmie Haskell and Spencer Proffer and produced by Spencer Proffer. From the album, “I’ve Got Time”. This was the fourth solo album by Allan, who had left the Hollies in 1971 and then rejoining in 1973, although he continued to release solo recordings. “If You Think You Know How To Love Me” was originally recorded by Smokie, whose version reached #3 on the UK charts in 1975. Hailing from Munich, Germany, Spencer Proffer moved to LA when he was six. He went on to have an extensive career in the music business, producing/arranging over 200 albums with artists as diverse as Tina Turner, the Ventures, Paul Anka, Allan Clarke and Quiet Riot, for whom he produced the #1 album, “Mental Health” in 1983.
