The Nazi Gestapo Headquarters on Pomorska Street in Krakow continue to remind visitors of the German occupation, now on the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII. Starting in the early days of WWII in 1939, Krakow was an administrative center for the Gestapo, the police force that ruled with impunity. Pomorska Street was the jail cell where prisoners and those in the Polish Underground were tortured for information before their probable executions in concentration and death camps. Muzeum Krakowa has created a thorough permanent exhibition, named People of Krakow in Times of Terror 1939-1945-1956, to bring attention the sufferings of ordinary citizens who fought against repressive Nazi and Communist regimes. At these headquarters are the chilling pencil etchings, still legible, of prisoners' final days.
