In this video, I explore the ruins of the old Hotel Itapirubá (Itapirubá beach - Laguna - SC), a landmark on the southern coast of Santa Catarina that was once synonymous with luxury and sophistication. Opened in 1978 by the Battistela Group, the hotel was the first large-scale beachfront hotel in the state, with 213 apartments and an impressive infrastructure for the time. However, financial problems led the Battistela Group to lose control of the enterprise in the late 1990s, resulting in the transfer of the property to Banco Sudameris as a way of paying off debts. In 2002, businessman Orlando Becker acquired the hotel and began renovations, managing to temporarily revitalize the place. In 2004, the hotel was sold to an owner with no experience in the hotel industry. The hotel ended up going bankrupt in less than a year. Since then, the Hotel Itapirubá has remained abandoned, with its facilities looted and deteriorated by time. My recording travels through empty corridors, dusty halls and outdoor areas overrun with vegetation, revealing the strange beauty of abandonment. A scene that makes us reflect on time, oblivion and the fate of places that were once alive.
