Estrategias para el manejo de malezas de difícil control: raigrás y crucíferas

Presentation by Hernán Panaggio, researcher at the Balcarce Integrated Unit (INTA - FCA, UNMdP). Presented within the framework of the Virtual Symposium on Wheat and Barley – Updates on Management Concepts. In recent years, weed problems have increased. In winter crops, ryegrass and the cruciferous weed complex are significant weeds that can cause substantial yield reductions. Furthermore, the emergence of biotypes with low sensitivity to certain herbicide modes of action exacerbates the problem. The best strategy for managing these weeds is the DIVERSIFICATION of control tactics, which can include (among other options): monitoring and identification of weed species, understanding the biology of the weed species (knowing emergence patterns), crop rotation, production intensification, incorporation of technologies (related to the new herbicide offerings in the phytosanitary market for weed control, new weed monitoring systems and selective herbicide application, the use of adapted mechanical implements or weed seed destroyers), crop management (varieties, planting date, density, spatial arrangement, genetics, and balanced fertilization), timely soil work, greater diversification of production systems, and herbicide management.
