SOUNDBITE (English) Marilyn Manson, Singer and Artist: "I use a children's watercolour kit for a lot of my paintings and so they're very bright. People probably imagine if I painted something it would be like in dog faeces or blood or something but there is blood in some of them but the only other medium I've really incorporated recently is - besides other types of paint- I've put absinthe a lot of times in my paintings." 6. Various shots of Manson's paintings 7. SOUNDBITE (English) Marilyn Manson, Singer and Artist: "I think I was really unsatisfied with the art world's treatment sometimes of artists because it seemed very similar to how you get treated as a musician and you know people often capitalise a lot on your work so I wanted to open my own gallery and I think it'll be very artist-friendly." 8. Zoom in to painting 9. Close-up of painting 10. SOUNDBITE (English) Marilyn Manson, Singer and Artist. "Because I never really intended to try and sell my paintings. I've actually had a difficulty parting with them, but for me, I began art and approached it very pure. Often times you get when you have other corporations involved with record companies and things like that it really often holds you back from doing what you like to do." 11. Various paintings 12. SOUNDBITE (English) Marilyn Manson, Singer and Artist. "I think my approach to art is a little bit old-fashioned. I feel like very proud that I can make something by hand which, you know, is something people don't always take the time to do." MARILYN MANSON OPENS ART GALLERY WITH EXHIBITION OF OWN WORK Shock rocker Marilyn Manson has found a new realm in which to express himself with the opening of his own art gallery in Los Angeles. The "Celebritarian Corporation Gallery of Fine Art" was launched appropriately enough on Halloween (October 31), with an exhibition of Manson's watercolours. Manson was quick to joke about what many people may have expected from his work. "I use a children's watercolour kit for a lot of my paintings and so they're very bright. People probably imagine if I painted something it would be like in dog faeces or blood or something but there is blood in some of them but the only other medium I've really incorporated recently is besides other types of paint I've put absinthe a lot of times in my paintings," Manson said. The motivation to open a gallery came from Manson's disappointment with how artists, both visual and musical, have been treated. "I think I was really unsatisfied with the art world's treatment sometimes of artists because it seemed very similar to how you get treated as a musician and you know people often capitalise a lot on your work so I wanted to open my own gallery and i think it'll be very artist-friendly", Manson said. Manson's work is not for the faint-hearted or the financially challenged. Pieces will range from US$8000 to US$35,000, high prices for an artist who never had any formal training or even a desire to sell his work. "Because I never really intended to try and sell my paintings. I've actually had a difficulty parting with them, but for me, I began art and approached it very pure. Often times you get when you have other corporations involved with record companies and things like that it really often holds you back from doing what you like to do," Manson said.
