Rupert Flange arrives in New Orleans ready to board a Caribbean cruise aboard the Norwegian Dawn. There is just one problem. His suitcase doesn't. After waiting at baggage claim while the carousel empties and the crowd disappears, Rupert discovers that his luggage has apparently vanished somewhere between home and Louisiana. With cruise embarkation day rapidly approaching, he faces the unpleasant possibility of sailing for a week with little more than the clothes on his back. Meanwhile, The Editor arrives by Amtrak’s Sunset Limited and quickly discovers that New Orleans has its own unique style of street entrepreneurship when a persistent shoe huckster takes an unusual interest in his bargain-priced footwear. Rupert's own encounter with another shoe scammer proves equally memorable, while an evening in the French Quarter leads to one of the strangest crowd experiences either traveller has ever encountered during Mardi Gras celebrations.
