Carla Ghelardini è professore ordinario di di Farmacologia, Farmacologia Clinica e Farmacognosia. Nel 2007 è stata eletta Presidente del corso di Laurea di Informazione Scientifica sul Farmaco e nel 2010 del corso di Laurea in Farmacia nella Facoltà di Farmacia. L'attività di ricerca si è essenzialmente focalizzata nel settore della neurofarmacologia, con contribuiti originali sulla terapia farmacologica del dolore. Ha vinto molti premi sia nazionali che internazionali ed è stata assegnataria di numerosi fondi di ricerca nazionali e di programmi di ricerca d'interesse industriale.
