3rd TLI Learning Community Workshop: Making Thinking Visible in Practice

This was the third virtual workshop of the Teacher Leader Institute's Learning Community focused on "teachers by teachers" sharing classroom experiences and strategies. The session featured four teachers presenting their innovative approaches: Adama Djimera from Senegal shared a poetry workshop conducted outdoors with 12th grade students, Ferdinand from Uganda presented his use of "Think-Pair-Share" methodology to manage large classes of 80-100 learners in refugee settlements, Abdoulaye Thiam from Senegal demonstrated making thinking visible in mathematics by having students work in groups to compare fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals, and Nilton from Senegal discussed his challenges with student engagement and connection. The presenters discussed various challenges including managing large classes, encouraging student participation, and making mathematical concepts more accessible, with participants providing feedback and asking questions about implementation strategies. The session emphasized the importance of collaborative learning, making thinking visible, and creating engaging classroom environments that foster student agency and understanding.
