Focus on your conclusions: Provide a definitive recommendation, target price, upside/downside, and earnings forecast. Clearly explain your valuation method and key catalysts. 2. Make your writing enjoyable and memorable: Compete for your reader's attention with concise language, clear font, an attractive layout, powerful section titles, and effective diagrams where "one chart communicates one message". Remember, judges are busy and reading multiple reports on the same company. 3. Conduct a comprehensive company and industry analysis: Show that you've considered various outcomes in addition to your central argument, applying frameworks to analyze local, regional, and global industry trends. 4. Identify key drivers of the company: Determine and focus on the main factors influencing the company's revenue, costs, margins, and capital investment needs. 5. Craft a vision of the company's future: Apply past knowledge to make well-informed predictions, clarifying expected changes in the company, industry, and macro landscape. Focus on the future, not just the past. 6. Present evidence to support your arguments: Ensure your conclusions are credible by supporting them with evidence. Act as an objective and independent analyst, not a company mouthpiece. 7. Describe the catalysts driving future value and price: Differentiate between value and price, and forecast both. Explain how your valuation assumptions and methods compare to market views, addressing any current divergence. 8. Consider alternative outcomes: Explore various scenarios, their likelihoods, and impacts on your conclusions, and clearly explain what could go wrong with your primary conclusion. Readers respect objective thinking. ABOUT DR. ANDREW STOTZ, CFA Former #1-ranked equity analyst in Thailand (2008, 2009). CFA Institute Research Challenge judge since 2009.
