Fernando Sor Op 6 no11 What is Sor, What is Segovia
In c.1816, Fernando Sor published his beautiful collection of Opus 6 studies. These were amongst more than 120 such pieces which he composed. In 1945, Andrés Segovia published his selection of 20 studies by Sor and remains one of the best-selling collections of music for classical guitar ever released. A close look at both Sor's original publication, and Segovia's edition reveals many discrepancies. Some are minor, others are radical. I believe every guitarist should be aware of what is Sor and what is Segovia. Each player can then make an informed decision in performance. In this video I directly compare the two scores. Where there are differences, I analyse them and ask which version reflects the composer's intentions. I also offer some fingering suggestions for challenging passages.
