This is the 299th day of our honeymoon from Poland to Australia. After a full circumnavigation of Uluru, we set off for almost 400 kilometers through the Australian Outback to a place that has captured the imagination of travelers from around the world for years – Coober Pedy, an underground city and the world capital of opals. We didn't expect, however, that the most valuable discovery that day wouldn't be the stones, but the people. Australia once again proved to us that hitchhiking is more than just a way of traveling. A chance meeting turned into a shared journey, new stories, and an evening culminating in a tasting of Polish borscht in the middle of the desert. Along the way, we discover the origins of opals, why thousands of kilometers of underground excavations were created beneath Coober Pedy, and the origins of theories about hidden tunnels and the secrets of the Australian Outback.
