"When the 1990s arrived, no one wanted to stay in the countryside. My brother and sister moved to the city, and I took over the farm. However, I changed my focus. Before, there were milk cows, beef cattle, horses, sheep, and pigs. There were so many animals—if breeding one wasn't profitable, others were sold to make ends meet," recalls Bogdan Kubala from Borowskie Cibory. Today, the farmer, known from the "Farmers.Podlasie" program, is proud of his Limousin beef cattle and Sokółka-type draft horses. Bogdan expanded his inherited farm from 21 to 50 hectares. He admits that farming is hard work. "I had all sorts of thoughts. Sometimes I regret staying because there's never a day off on the farm. You have to work all the time—day or night." And in the city, as we all know, there are free Saturdays, Sundays, and weekends. Some go to the beach, others to the cinema or on vacation. Meanwhile, in the countryside, in the summer, when it's warm, there's the most work. I wanted to and could have gone to the city, but I decided it would be a shame to leave it to fall into ruin," he emphasizes. The famous farmer's farm is dominated by Limousin beef cattle. "It's not very profitable. I only get paid once or twice a year – depending on how many I have and how many I sell."
