The secret to Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Lovano’s success is his fearless ability to challenge and push the conceptual and thematic choices he makes in a quest for new modes of artistic expression, further defining the jazz idiom. Jim Merod, BluePort Jazz founder and artistic director of the Jazz Monsters Series and Jazz Festival Series, speaks with Joe Lovano and his band members about their individual histories and what it’s like to play in the Nonet.
