The Body Image Lies We Hold Onto in Our 50's-60's ~Lets Reclaim our Freedom! Empty Nester, Retiree,

In this video, I’m talking honestly about body image in midlife, menopause, aging, and the surprising ways self-consciousness can still show up even when we know better. As a menopausal woman, empty nester, retired counselor, and someone who spent decades helping people work through body image issues and eating disorders, I would have thought by this stage of life I would be completely free from caring so much about certain body parts or cultural beauty standards. And while I do not believe my value comes from my appearance, I can still feel that old familiar discomfort creep in, especially during the summer months when the clothes get lighter, shorter, and more revealing. This conversation is not about pretending we suddenly love every part of ourselves or that body image struggles magically disappear with age. It is about being honest enough to notice when shame is making our choices for us. Are we avoiding photos, covering up in the heat, skipping the pool, staying out of certain clothes, or missing memories because our bodies have changed? My goal this summer is to choose comfort, joy, presence, and memories over hiding. I want to care for my body without punishing it, dress in ways that support the life I am actually living, and stop letting cultural beauty standards decide how much of my life I participate in. I would love to hear from you. Have body image struggles changed for you in your 50s, 60s, menopause, or empty nest years? Are there things you avoid because you feel self-conscious? Or have you found ways to become more comfortable, confident, and free in your body as you age? Thank you for being part of this conversation. Please subscribe and join me here at Unfinished Story as we keep talking about purpose, aging, identity, confidence, faith, friendship, and finding ourselves again in this next chapter of life. #womenover50 #bodyimage #emptynest #retirement #personalgrowth #emotionalhealing #enjoylife #midlifewomen #anxiety #healthylifestyle #healthyliving
