According to CEO Daniel Obajtek, this was supposed to be an extremely profitable transaction, but financial reports indicate that Orlen lost over 4 billion złoty on the sale of the Lotos share. CEO Obajtek also assured that Russia was not looming large over the merger, but that nearly 80 gas stations operated in Hungary under the Russian brand Lukoil had been replaced by Polish Orlens. CEO Obajtek claimed that there was no queue of buyers for the Lotos assets, but a reporter from "Czarno na biały" (Black and White) reached a company that was interested in buying a part of Lotos and was not allowed to join the queue.
