In Puerto Vallarta, you can find the taste of Havana in the heart of the Pacific. Join us for this new episode dedicated to La Bodeguita del Medio. And our tour begins here! For those who don't know what La Bodeguita del Medio is, it's a typical Havana restaurant, but this is undoubtedly the most famous and one of the busiest tourist spots in the city. Great figures from the worlds of politics, art, and culture have passed through here, and one of the most famous is the writer Ernest Hemingway, whose signature has practically become the symbol of this place. It is said that Hemingway only visited this place once, but his visit was so beneficial because he gave him a quote that helped increase the place's fame: "My daiquiri at La Floridita and my mojito at La Bodeguita." This place has been open since 1942 when Ángel Martínez bought the La Complacencia winery on Empedrado Street in Old Havana. Shortly after it became La Bodeguita, important figures such as Gabriela Mistral, Agustín Lara, and Pablo Neruda began to visit. In Cuba, small neighborhood markets are called bodegas, and they are strategically located on street corners or at the ends of streets. This is why the location of this establishment in the middle of the street was striking, and it was dubbed La Bodeguita del Medio. The success of this place was largely due to its location right next to the printing press of the editor Félix Ayón. It became a bohemian meeting place for writers, artists, and intellectuals. The editor is also credited with giving the place its name, as he referred to it as La Bodeguita del Medio to his friends. At the end of the video, don't miss the recipe for the authentic Cuban mojito. Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
