Murdaugh Podcaster Mandy Matney Ordered to Pay $176,500 for Failing to Appear for Depo, "Defying" Ct

Mandy Matney is an independent journalist/podcaster who rose to fame as a result of her coverage of & in-depth investigation into the legal dynasty Murdaugh family in the low country of South Carolina, beginning in 2019, when a boat crash involving 19 year old Paul Murdaugh resulted in the death of 19 year old Mallory Beach. Mandy's dogged reporting continued through the 2021 m*rders of Maggie & Paul Murdaugh and extensive trial of disgraced attorney Alex Murdaugh (Maggie's husband and Paul's father), and she is largely credited with uncovering Alex Murdaugh's financial crimes against his 100 year old family law firm and its clients. Mandy's "Murdaugh Murders Podcast" was hugely successful, resulting in the Hulu miniseries "Murdaugh: Death in the Family", on which Mandy served as executive producer. She and her husband started Luna Shark Media in 2021. On 7/13/26, Judge R. Keith Kelly, Hampton County, SC, issued a contempt order against Matney and ordered her to pay attorneys' fees and costs in the amount of $176,500 for "willfully" failing to appear for a deposition in the case of Beach v Parker, et al, in which she is a non-party.
