How to Plant Miyagui Grass Correctly 👇 Miyagui grass has high forage production, broad leaves, and excellent nutritional quality. It is a warm-climate grass. Used for grazing and cutting or silage for dairy and beef cattle. What is the scientific name of Miyagui grass? Its scientific name is Megathyrsus maximus cv. Miyagui is related to Mombasa, MG-12 Paredao, Zuri, Maasai, Tanzania. This grass was selected in Brazil in 2009. Characteristics of Miyagui grass: It is a perennial grass. Average height of 2.5 m. Forms numerous clumps. Leaves with very little fuzz. Broad leaves (4.71 cm). If you want an excellent cut-and-carry forage for dairy and beef cattle, Miyagui grass is the best option. This grass is suitable for cutting and feeding. You can also use it for intensive grazing. What is the nutritional value of Miyagui? This grass has between 9-13% protein per kilogram of dry matter and a digestibility of between 53-59%, making it an excellent grass for feeding dairy or beef cattle. It is a highly palatable grass with excellent consumption. How much green forage does Miyagui produce? Miyagui is a high-yielding forage grass. Its dry matter production ranges from 28.4-30.6 tons/year/ha. This means it can reach a green matter production of between 140-150 tons per hectare per year. That's a lot! 🙈 How do you make silage with Miyagui grass? This grass is ideal for making very high-quality silage. Miyagui grass has a good balance of protein and carbohydrates, which is why it's easy to ensile, making it cheaper and more efficient than corn silage. Keep in mind that this grass is a perennial species and is sown only once. How is Miyagui grass grazed? Proper grazing is essential to maximize nutrient absorption and/or to cut at the optimal point. Grasses should be grazed before the seeds appear. In the case of Miyagui grass, animals should enter the pasture when the grass is between 80-90 cm tall, and their exit height should be between 40-50 cm. Never graze the grass completely; leave some leaves so the plant can recover and begin photosynthesis as soon as possible. You already know the best sorghum for silage; it's called JJT-18. What animals can eat Miyagui grass? It's suitable for dairy and beef cattle at all stages (calves, steers) and is also readily consumed by horses. For horses, it's ideal as chopped forage, as they love it 😛 What types of soil should we plant Miyagui grass in? Miyagui grass requires highly fertile soils; it doesn't adapt well to acidic or poorly drained soils. It should be planted in neutral soils with high base saturation. If you have acidic soil, it's best to lime it before planting. If you plant it in acidic, low-fertility soil, you'll waste your money 🤢 How do you plant Miyagui grass? 50% of the success of a pasture planting lies in the correct soil preparation (seedbed). If you follow the steps correctly, you'll have a highly productive pasture for many years. Miyagui grass seed is certified and should be planted in highly fertile, neutral soil. It does not adapt well to acidic, low-fertility, or poorly drained soils.
