It was originally led by a nobleman who would later become Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. From that point on, the regiment was regarded as the Emperor’s own and proudly carried his name. With its recruitment offices based primarily in Moravia, the regiment developed a strong Czech identity that remains central to its character.
