300: Healey Dell and Rooley Moor (South Pennines 2026)

SOUTH PENNINES WALK FEATURING HEALEY DELL AND ROOLEY MOOR "Healey Dell and Rooley Moor” Filmed 27th May 2026 Post-production completed 8th June 2026 This is the third of four films in the South Pennines, shot during the last week of May 2026. Perhaps more importantly, this is my 300th film in the Solitary Rambler series overall 🙂 My walk in this film follows tracks rising to the fringes of Rooley Moor, which gives wonderful views across both the Manchester Basin and the South and West Pennine Hills, and includes a walk along a section of a fantastic old, cobbled road. Towards the end of the route, I find myself amongst the lovely woodlands and waterfalls of Healey Dell Nature Reserve, in important location during the Industrial Revolution, where medieval “outworking” practices gave way to early mill complexes. Having completed my walk, I stop briefly in Rochdale Town Centre, just to take a quick look at the exterior of the amazing building that is the Town Hall. As I make my way back to my Premier Inn, I unexpectedly encounter some very special guests! 😁 Following my first couple of days in the heatwave during this particular week, particularly the previous day when I was filming my Watergrove and Brown Wardle Hill walk, this day turned out to be cooler, so thankfully the filming of this walk was much more comfortable. Filmed in the South Pennines in the counties of Greater Manchester and Lancashire. Locations include Healey Dell and Rooley Moor.
