The honorary doctorate ceremony we are holding here today is a new symbol of this ancient friendship. Since its founding in 1946, our university has adopted building bridges with different cultures and developing international academic collaborations in the light of science and universal values ​​as one of its most fundamental missions. With this understanding, we have previously had the opportunity to share this honor with distinguished members of the Japanese Imperial Family. In 1986, we conferred honorary doctorates on His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Takahito Mikasa, and in 2010, on His Royal Highness Prince Tomohito Mikasa. Today, we continue this tradition and, at the same time, on the 101st anniversary of Turkey-Japan diplomatic relations, we confer this title on His Royal Highness Princess Akiko Mikasa, further strengthening the friendship and academic ties between our two countries."
